Most Friday nights you'll find us at home. And I'm not gonna lie – that often means we each retreat to our own corners, but I decided that we should have a Friday fun schedule to do stuff together as a family as we start the weekend.
So, I came up with a mostly at-home Friday activity and meal schedule. We'll rotate through them and change it up as necessary. These are things we've done in the past just not on any kind of schedule. The same goes for the meal schedule; we'll figure out what works best for each week. After all, I'm not a very rigid schedule keeper.
Friday Night Theme/Activity
- Movie Night
- Board Game Night
- Dress Like Your Favorite (movie star/food/color/animated character/book character/etc)
- Historic Period Night (time period or historic event)
- Boys' Game Night – Card games and/or Xbox
- Out to dinner and bookstore browsing (probably in Uptown so we can end up at Magers and Quinn Booksellers)
Friday Night Meals
- Make Your Own Pizza
- Historic Period Night Themed Meal
- High Tea
I'll stick up a sign-up list for movies and games. Each family member can vote or add preferences. Then, we'll choose based on votes/list.
Pizza: I buy pizza crusts and then I'll have sauce and cheese and toppings like ham and pineapple, sautéed veggies, sardines, turkey pepperoni. Then, each person can add what he or she prefers.
Take-out: We like to get Thai or Vietnamese, generally. I order a variety of dishes and we all share and I hope for enough leftovers for Saturday night dinner.
Smorgasbord: I put out trays of sliced salami and cheeses, nuts, fruits, veggies, crackers, etc. I'll make a big bowl of popcorn (1/2 cup of popping corn and ¼ cup coconut oil) and perhaps I'll make some chocolate chip cookies too.
High Tea: I make a pot of tea and put together a variety of items. I like to make an almond cake or cornmeal orange cake or scones and then some little sandwiches and fruit. Or whatever I pull together from the fridge. The fun thing about a tea and a smorgasbord is that it can really be anything you come up with that you have on hand.
And I'll figure out what to do for Historic Period Night…this one will definitely take more thought and organization.
What do you like to do on Friday night? Over and out…
