Even though I have seen fewer and fewer movies over the years, I have been tuning into the Academy Awards for many years. I love the formality, the style, the red carpet interviews and the movie clips, both old and new.
The Classics
My parents are avid fans of classic black and white {& color} movies. Yet when I was born, my parents decided to get rid of their T.V. On occasion, my mom would rent a T.V., VCR and classic movies for a weekend treat. My brother and I grew to love these films too. When I was 12 years old, we bought a T.V. and that is when we started watching current programming, but our love of the classic movies and actors remained.
Later, as a teen, I realized how skewed my sense of reality had been as a younger child watching these classic films with the likes of Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Barbara Stanwyck, Jimmy Stewart, Doris Day, Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, William Holden, Ingrid Bergman, etc. I know it seems silly, but at the time I had thought these movie stars to be young and vibrant and the films current.
I'm so thankful that my parents opened up this wonderful world of classic movies to me. The classics are well-made; the stories interesting, engaging, funny and thrilling; and the actors are amazing.
Law Related Oscar Nominated Films from the 1930s to the Present
While I'm a fan of many movies that have nothing to do with the law, I thought it would be fun to find all the law-related films nominated for best picture over the years. I may have missed a few {and if I have, please leave me a comment with the title I missed}. If you haven't seen these law related films, be sure to put them in your Netflix queue. There are some great movies in this list:
For the list of all nominated films click here for the Wikipedia List. There are many more great films on the list that have nothing to do with the law. Check Moviefone for predictions of the 2011 Academy Award winners. That way, even if you haven't seen the movies {as I haven't}, you can impress your friends with your knowledge of the nominated films and actors and pick more winners than your friends.
The Scoop
I'm off to the Oscars with my Girls' Night Out Crew; it's one of our traditions. Over the years, we have gotten less and less formal. Now we are to the point that we wear sweats and order take-out, but there was a time that we went all out with the glam and glitz for the Oscar Party. Personally, I'm glad those days are over. Are you heading to an Oscar watching party? Are you dressing up or down? Either way, enjoy! Over and out....

I adore old movies. My parents used to rent old VHS tapes and every Saturday evening we'd discover a new treasure. I really got hooked on Bing Crosby films...yes mostly musical but I loved them.
I really enjoy movies that are thought provoking like law related films, especially those that are based on real life events. They are really captivating.
Enjoy your party!!
