I have a little more "Motherly Advice" for you as a follow up to the Motherly Advice posted this morning. This advice comes from the Sajai Foundation, a non-profit organization working to combat childhood obesity and inspire wise health and nutrition choices for youth. If you are unfamiliar with the Sajai Foundation learn more at www.sajaifoundation.org. These tips are easy to implement into our busy daily schedules and sound like fun too. Give them a try, and let me know what your kids think. I am going to try these with my family next week.
We know kids should be active for at least 60 minutes per day. But sometimes it’s not that easy to find a large block of time for a structured activity or even active free play. Because our Wise Kids® programs focus on Energy Balance, we’ve included a few easy-to-implement ideas for both Energy IN (choosing healthy foods) and Energy OUT (being physically active) so you can take part in helping the children around you become healthier. Better yet, join in right along with them!
Energy IN Challenges:
• Eat breakfast each day this week.
• Try 1 new vegetable each day this week.
• Plan and prepare one nutritious dinner this week.
Energy OUT Challenges:
• Play a game of Simon Says using active commands such as ‘hop on one foot 5 times’ or ‘do 7 jumping jacks’.
• Play Keep it Up with a balloon (a fun activity that can be done indoors with little space)
• Play Food Pyramid Hot Potato with a bean bag or small ball. The leader calls out a food group and starts a timer. Whoever catches the ball needs to name a food from that group before they can toss the ball to another player. When the timer goes off, the person holding the ball is out, and play continues.
Over and Out. Enjoy the weekend. Come back Monday to find out the top reason you need a Last Will and Testament.
